Music Lessons

Each student is different - Some more outgoing than others. For this reason each of my lessons is planned to be adaptable to each individual student but contain all the tools they need in their own individual practice. I believe that learning happens more outside of the lesson, and without practice the lessons cannot have the same potential on the students learning. This can be seen by this quote by the head of Pedagogy at the RNCM Jennie Henley “Education is setting the conditions for people to build their own understanding and  opportunities for unexpected outcomes.”

In addition to this, my lessons are intended to be light and engaging, so when leaving the lesson the student will be self motivated for their own practice on what was covered in the lessons.

What would a standard lesson look like?

At the start of the lesson we would concentrate on warming up and practising some scales. These are both crucial basics for different reasons. Warming up is to ensure a good physical health and scales as the biggest building block in most pieces.

Each lesson we will concentrate on a specific piece of music that you are working on and improving it as the weeks go on. These will mostly be from the ABRSM or Trinity syllabus’ so if the student intends to work through the grades this is half of the job done.

Each lesson will focus on one of the key ideas of being a musician - dynamics, tempo/pulse, articulation, etc.

How much are lessons?

My standard rate from home is £30 per hour but would be slightly different if you would prefer at your house or on Zoom. It is possible to have shorter lessons, if required.

Payment is made weekly and by bank transfer.

Lessons with Under 18 year olds

I hold an Advanced DBS check. Any student that is under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult who must stay during the lessons.
