James Hyde – The Ice Palace (world premier) Edvard Grieg – 2 Elegiac Melodies Op.34 Jean Sibelius – Symphony No.5 Our programme will unravel stories from the Nordics, exploring feelings of grief, nostalgia and the acceptance of our human experience. James Hyde’s exciting new composition was inspired by Norwegian author Tarjei Vesaas’ book of the same name. The Ice Palace explores loss and friendship within the icy Norwegian winter, followed by the nostalgia and grief of a potential ‘Last Spring’ in Grieg’s Two Elegiac melodies. To finish, we will hear sounds of the remote Finnish Landscape in Sibelius’ Symphony No. 5, mirroring the cyclic nature of Finnish seasonal cycles and folk music with it’s many rotating sequences ending up where they began. Production of The Ice Palace has been in collaboration with Resonate, a dynamic collective of talented post-production engineers, skilled composers, and accomplished instrumentalists, dedicated to bringing audio visions to life.
